Hi all,
Some upcoming projects that are in the works or will soon be in production:
Agatha Christie’s The Man in the Brown Suit – this one we tried to do at the Towne House failed so spectacularly it still hurts. Lesson: do not do a piece that relies on the spoken work in a really loud restaurant that is playing really loud music for really loud people. You might have thought this obvious, but alas…
Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd – this one has been gestating for a while. The problem with some of these older works are just the number of people one has to get into a room (and their schedules). I’m going to play around with skillful sound engineering to help with the people problem. I also want, if possible, the fewest number of people involved on a project – I think it focuses the work, as well as keeps people more interested if they have more to do. I also think for this kind of work, radio play style readings, it’s just more fun to listen to character defined by voice, and more interesting if one actor can play many roles.
The Iliad – this one is what started my spoken word/audio drama love when Curio Theatre did this as our very first trial production. I’m reimaging it as a solo performance piece with lots of sound/music manipulated by the performer. One thing I’ve come to enjoy with the public performances is controlling the audio as I speak. I think it creates an interesting dimension if the performer can control the flow they feel for that particular audience.
The Odyssey – see above
That’s it for now – I’ll update this post as things move into production or move into the process
